An “Electric” Trombone?
Yes…well, an Edwards T302 Jazz Trombone and purple pBone rigged with special mics and mutes to transfer the acoustic sound into a laptop where it can then be manipulated in countless ways. At first glance, Kramer’s DJ setup may not appear particularly impressive, but once you look “under the hood” you’ll find it to be quite sophisticated, practical, and nothing short of innovative. Initially, Kramer used standard guitar pedals to create his “electric” trombone sounds and a Boss Loop Station to loop them. However, as his electronic soloing developed during his DKO Electric Quartet performances, he craved the need for more musical variety and technical flexibility which then actually led to a new creative vision of becoming a Solo Multi-Instrumentalist Ableton DJ.
